Terracotta was founded with a simple mission: to nourish your skin with only safe and effective ingredients, without contaminating our planet.
There are too many products that are branded as “natural”, but contain toxic chemicals hidden in the ingredients list. On the other hand, there are some products that are full of amazing, natural ingredients - but they’re packaged in plastic. And while we may feel good throwing those empty containers in the recycling bin, unfortunately less than 10% of plastic actually gets recycled. The vast majority ends up in landfills, incinerators, or the ocean instead.
When I created Terracotta, I didn’t want consumers to have to choose between safe, high-quality ingredients and responsible packaging. That’s why we only use ingredients that are found in nature, and packaging that is biodegradable.
This mission is very personal to me. I have struggled with eczema since childhood, so skincare has always been a big part of my life (and my credit card bill). In my early 20s, it occurred to me that I didn’t actually know what was in the products I was lathering on. The more I looked into the ingredients, the more horrified I became - my products were filled with parabens, phthalates, sulfates, artificial fragrances, and other questionable ingredients. This led to a multi-year journey of replacing all my products with natural, non-toxic products. After a while though, it became tiring to be constantly scrutinizing labels. I eventually decided to take a stab at making my own products - and the rest is history.
If you’ve experienced similar struggles, whether you’ve been searching for natural remedies for your eczema or aspiring to live a zero waste lifestyle, you’re in the right place :)
